OUR STORY

The idea for Threshold Initiatives was planted in our hearts 15 years ago at a pastor’s retreat when God spoke to us about being a safe place for ministering couples and individuals to receive care, encouragement and prayer. Over time, we were challenged by the question of who ministers to those who are ministering? And what are the options for leaders who feel stuck? Counselling, moving, church discipline, new career, fresh start…? Our heart has always been to raise up and equip followers of Jesus to walk in freedom for themselves and then to help others live in the same way. What may be challenging for leaders though, is to seek help without judgement, or find the kind of help that can equip them and release them into greater freedom.

Within our own journey of traversing ministry and our own spirituality we were given a prophetic word from a trusted leader in our lives about being in a distinct season which he described as a threshold. He said that in this liminal space God was working in us to increase our character and capacity to make us ready to be the kind of people that we would need to be in the season to come. But we had a choice for how long we would be there. We were not yet where we were going, neither were we where we had been. In the threshold there is an opportunity for increased intimacy and growth, but for many it is a place of increased tension and immobility.

Paul writes in 2 Timothy 1:7 that God does not give us a spirit of fear, but of wisdom, power and self discipline. While many Christians believe this to be true, they do not feel that they have the ability or the tools to access the Spirit’s wisdom and power, or the freedom to be effective in self-discipline. As we have grown in our own use and understanding of God’s heavenly resources and equipping we have helped many others to put these initiatives into practice in their own lives, through which they have experienced freedom through Christ, in spiritual renewal, identity, and increased intimacy with God and others.

We not only want to help individuals grow in their discipleship to Jesus, but we also have a calling to equip the church to be all that she can be in this new season of ministry. As the church around the world adapts to be both a gathering place for believers and a light in its communities for the gospel, there are many changes taking place about how that will look in the days and years to come. Contributing Pastor is a new style of ministry equipping through which the church can contract a specialized pastor to contribute for a season in the areas of their church in which the local body needs support, training, mentorship, and expertise. But not necessarily with the burden of someone in a full-time capacity. Contributing Pastor is a customizable contract with a specialized pastor of your choosing who can assess, equip, mentor and support your current staff team, or volunteer team to bring a lasting infusion to your local church body in a way that a conference, guest speaker, or popular curriculum cannot. Check out how Contributing Pastor can partner with your local church.
